I can’t believe it is a major week again already! It seems like just yesterday that Tiger Woods provided us with one of the most exciting majors we have ever seen at the U.S. Open. Now just a month later, the best in the world gather again hoping that this week, will be their week. The Open Championship will be hosted by the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England. It is a long way from home for a lot of players, however the opportunity to play in one of the most renowned tournaments in history is worth the flight.
I caught up with Aaron as he prepared to leave for the Open:
There has been a fair bit of press on this jet a lot of the players will be able to take to the Open. How did that come about and are you a little excited about your seat on it?
It’s a great idea that the tournament organized this because it allows the guys who want to play John Deere to get into the UK easily. I worked out that you would need to take at least 3 different planes to get to the Open and hopefully your clubs and clothes might make it. Now we get on at 8pm, have a sleep and then arrive at 8am in Manchester - with our clubs and clothes! Great idea!
How much is jetlag a factor when traveling so far for a tournament? Are you able to sleep well on the plane?
I am very talented when it comes to sleeping on planes. I guess I'm used to it, but I can sleep very well, so I should be fine.
How do you feel about your previous experiences at the British Open?
I feel that I haven't played as well as I would have liked. I enjoy playing the Open and I am looking forward to a good week!
Is there any particular part of your game you know you will have to concentrate on at this course?
I haven’t played the course so I’m not sure but usually at the Open you have to use your imagination and hit all different shots because of the wind as well as the firm and fast conditions. It is a lot of fun to play!
How have you prepared for this event?
I have taken some time off and rested up. I played the John Deere to prepare and play a tourney the week before the big event which I think should work well. I also have been working on my putting a lot! It is always good to putt well!
At the moment, what do you believe is your greatest strength with your game?
I actually feel pretty good about my whole game right now. My ball striking is getting better all the time and I feel the hard work on my putting is starting to pay off. All in all, I can’t wait for the OPEN!!
Good luck Badds! Have a great week.
Thanks Shelley.
Aaron will tee off on Thursday morning at 7:36am with Justin Rose and Tom Watson.
