It’s Sunday night but the Open is not over! The U.S. Open will continue for another 18 holes tomorrow when Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods tee up for an 18 hole play-off. It was an awesome day of golf, one of the most exciting I have seen in a long time.
Woods, Mediate and Westwood managed to keep the lead through-out the day but each player had their struggles and nothing was ever a sure thing. Woods made his return to golf this week after a 6 week break to recuperate from knee surgery which would be painful enough never mind adding 5 days of playing golf to the mix. As always though, he showed the world why he is number 1 by keeping his game together in the toughest conditions and pulling out all the stops exactly when he had to. A pressure putt on the 18th for birdie is what he needed to do to equal Mediate and force a play-off. The ball rolled around the cup and fell in encouraging the loudest cheers from the crowd ever. Westwood missed his opportunity to join the play-off when he failed to make his birdie putt on the 18th.
Mediate will be the oldest player in history to win the U.S. Open if he is successful against Tiger tomorrow. What a joy to watch! He is full of life and his enthusiasm for the game is completely infectious. Mediate and Woods will tee off at 12pm EST tomorrow. If there has ever been a good reason to take a day off work, this could be it!
Aaron had a good week at the Open. His best round was yesterday with an even par. Badds started the final round with a share for 19th place at 5 over par. Today he had 4 bogeys and 1 birdie to close with a 3 over 74 and finish the tournament with a share of 29th place at +8.
Best of luck to Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods.
