What a perfect day for Johnson Wagner! Not only did he claim his 1st PGA tour title, but he earned himself a ticket to the biggest week in golf, the Masters. This time last week, Johnson was ranked 193rd in the world and figured he had next week off. Now he will join the field at Augusta as the champion of the Shell Houston Open. You probably couldn’t ask for a better note to start off on for one of the most amazing experiences of your career.
Wagner got off to a blistering start on Thursday shooting a 63. A 69 on both Friday and Saturday allowed him to start the final round in the lead. It wasn’t in the bag though, he had a lot of work to do with a number of players right behind him. Wagner kept his pace and even though he was extremely nervous he managed to shoot the 71 he needed to seal the deal by 2 strokes.
From everyone at Team Badds we want to congratulate Johnson and wish him all the best for this week.
Aaron had another good week to close with a share of 14th place with Kevin Streelman, Jeff Quinney, Steve Elkington, Lucas Glover, Ryan Armour. Badds started off with a 72 in rounds 1 and 2. There were a lot of very low early rounds, which meant he had a lot of work to do on the weekend to play catch up. Fortunatley Aaron found his pace on Saturday and fired a 65 (7 under) to move straight into a share of 10th place. Today was very up and down for Aaron. With 6 birdies at one point he moved to 11 under, however a rough finish of 3 bogeys on the 15th, 17th and 18th saw him move back to 8 under for the tournament.
Aaron will now make his way to Augusta to prepare for the Masters!
GO BADDS!
Shelley
